Lenovo seems to love to navigate in that discreet and chic lane, at least when it comes to its gaming and entertainment laptops. The line of notebooks has been renamed once again, but it has not changed much from last year's Y50, apart from a capital "L" in the Lenovo logo on the lid and the black and red grid that is most prominent in the part. back
Most of the keyboard is covered with a black finish and soft to the touch. The upper part of the platform has two thick aluminum speaker grilles on each side of the hinge, which is made of glossy black plastic. It's not an offensive look at all, but with so many laptops moving the motif in red and black, it's definitely a little tired. The Y700 also collects fingerprint smudges faster than I would like.
I love it when a PC manufacturer listens! After turning off the Y-series laptops of the latest generation for their lackluster screens, Lenovo intensified its game and added a much needed brightness. The 15-inch panel of 1920 x 1080 of the Y700 averaged 263 nits in our photometer, surpassing the overall average of 244 nits. He was still no match for the Alienware 15, which reached a dazzling 311 nits, but the Inspiron 15-7000 produced a measly 222 nits.
This brightness definitely helped when I saw the 1080p preview for The Hateful Eight on this screen. I could see the small folds full of dirt in the white gloves of actor Samuel L. Jackson. His blood red tie caught my attention, allowing me to see his bronze complexion. However, I noticed some yellowing, particularly in white objects.
Despite the yellow tint in the advancement of the film, the sky in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was cute and blue. Snake's face was covered in a mask of red blood, dried blood huddled in the deep crevices of his face.
The Y700 also worked well in Delta-E, which measures color accuracy: it scored 0.7 (0 is the ideal), firmly defeating Alienware's 1.3 from Dell and 4.1 from Dell. However, not everything is sun and rainbows on the front of the screen. The Y700 produced only 60.8 percent of the sRGB color gamut, much less than the ideal 100 percent. The Inspiron 15-7000 had a marginally better performance, of 70 percent, while the Alienware was almost perfect, with 98 percent.
Lenovo's collaboration with JBL continues to bear fruit. Equipped with a pair of JBL speakers and a subwoofer mounted on the bottom, the Y700 pumps a high and balanced audio. The laptop is also equipped with Dolby software, which has been integrated into the new Lenovo configuration menu, where you can access five audio settings: dynamics, music, movies, games and voice. (For the purposes of this review, I used Dynamic as my default configuration).
The Y700 gets its gaming credit from its Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 GPU with 4 GB of VRAM. That means you can play most of the most popular games, but not the highest settings.
Sliding across the desert floor at 38 fps at Very High in MGSV, I had time to notice the striations on the cliff with their myriad cracks. I discovered a small wolf cub on the way to the enemy base and spent a while listening to how the individual hairs were made. When I dropped the configuration to High, the frame rate went up to 61 fps, and at medium settings, it played at 72 fps.
Equipped with an Intel Core i7-6700 2.6 GHz CPU with 16 GB of RAM, the Y700 is more than just fun and games. The laptop transmitted an episode of Master of None without incident despite running a full system scan with 12 tabs open in Google Chrome.
